When Do We Recommend a Dental Crown?

Dr. Klein may recommend a crown for a tooth in these situations:

  • Protect a severely damaged, decayed, fractured, or broken tooth
  • Rebuild and strengthen a tooth that’s had root canal treatment
  • Top a single dental implant
  • Cover a tooth for cosmetic reasons like discoloration or size discrepancies
  • Strengthen a tooth with a sizeable broken-down filling

A crown covers your remaining healthy tooth structure, closely mimicking the shape and shade of your compromised tooth to restore function and aesthetics.

When Do We Recommend a Dental Bridge?

Dr. Klein uses a bridge to restore one or more adjacent missing teeth. The bridge uses two dental crowns to anchor one or multiple prosthetic teeth in between. The prosthetic teeth fill in the gaps left by missing teeth, so you regain chewing function, tooth alignment, and aesthetics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental crowns cover a tooth entirely and are an excellent solution for compromised teeth. Dr. Klein recommends dental crowns in several situations to protect and restore your teeth. We typically suggest a crown when:
  • When a tooth is severely decayed or weakened,  and a filling isn't sufficient to restore its strength and function.
  • You have a cracked or fractured tooth that needs protection from further damage.
  • A tooth has undergone root canal treatment and requires additional structural support.
  • You have a large filling that's worn down or at risk of falling out.
  • You need to improve the appearance of a misshapen or severely discolored tooth.
  • You're replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant or bridge, where the crown serves as the visible portion.

The Dental Crown or Bridge Process

Completing a dental crown or bridge is a similar process that typically takes two visits and two to three weeks to complete.

The first visit starts with preparing your smile for its new restoration. Dr. Klein will take impressions and create a temporary crown or bridge for you to wear while our trusted dental lab creates your final restoration.

That process typically takes two to three weeks. When your restoration is ready, you’ll return to Punta Gorda Family Dentistry to have it permanently placed.

If you’re ready to reclaim your smile, we would love to help! Contact our team at (941) 639-4176 to book an evaluation with Dr. Klein.

Crowns and Bridges Technology

Intraoral Camera

Our intraoral camera brings a whole new perspective to your dental visits. This tiny, pen-sized device captures high-resolution images of your mouth, teeth, and gums, allowing Dr. Klein to show you exactly what he sees. You'll view these real-time images on a nearby screen, making it easier to understand the status of your oral health and your treatment options.

This technology not only aids in the early detection of issues but also empowers you to make informed decisions about your oral care.

Digital Impressions

At Punta Gorda Family Dentistry, we've said goodbye to messy, uncomfortable traditional molds with our advanced digital impression system. Dr. Klein uses a small, handheld scanner to create precise 3-D images of your teeth and gums in minutes.

This technology not only improves your comfort but also enhances accuracy for crowns, bridges, and other dental restorations. Digital impressions mean faster turnaround times, fewer adjustments, and, ultimately, a better fit for your dental work.
